If you are going on vacation or are otherwise going to be away for a while, you might be thinking about taking your cat to a kennel while you are gone. However, there is an option that seems to be a better choice for many cat owners and their feline companions: a pet sitter who will stop by your home and take care of your cat while you're on your trip. These are a few reasons why this can be a much better choice.
1. Avoid Exposing Your Cat to Other Cats
Even though having your cat vaccinated can help protect it against a lot of diseases, the truth is that your cat can still get sick if it is exposed to a lot of other cats. The results of this can range from your cat simply not feeling well for a few days to a disease that is a lot more serious. If your cat is kept at your home while you're away, you don't have to worry as much about this.
2. Avoid Stressing Your Cat Out
Cats can become incredibly stressed out when their surroundings change. Many cats get nervous when they are put in a car for a car ride. When you combine the trip to the kennel with the many changes that your cat will experience while being boarded, you can expect your cat to quite possibly be very stressed out. If you are able to hire a pet sitter to check on your cat in your home, you can help reduce this stress by keeping your cat in its familiar environment.
3. Have Someone Check on Your Home
An added bonus of having someone come over and check on your cat is the fact that he or she can also check on your home while they're there, such as by bringing your mail and newspaper in or simply flipping a few lights on throughout the house to make it appear as if someone is home. This can help you deter burglars and make sure that your home is fine while you're gone. Just make sure that you choose a pet sitter who has undergone a background check and who you can trust.
As you can see, there are a few reasons to consider hiring a pet sitter instead of taking your cat to a kennel. If you're planning on going out of town, consider contacting a local cat sitting service so that you can find out more.Share
